NFM and the Tees Valley Combined Authority join forces to deliver a new region wide development programme supporting film and television talent in the Tees Valley.
Northern Film + Media is launching Tees Valley Screen, a new programme designed to support film and television talent in the Tees Valley as well as encouraging Hollywood productions to the regions stunning locations.
NFM and industry partners will be gathering together to launch Tees Valley Screen, a new programme of workshops, surgeries, commissions and networking events across the Tees Valley designed the grow the next generation of film and television talent as well as encouraging major film and television productions to shoot in the region.
Launching on the 26th March at Middlesbrough Town Hall the event will feature a key note speech from the Emmy and BAFTA Award winning Cat Lewis, CEO of Nine Lives Media who will talk about her journey from presenter on Radio Tees to running one of he biggest factual independent production companies in the North.
The launch will also be an opportunity to hear more about Northern Film + Media’s ‘Filming Friendly’ Charter which aims to ensure incoming film and television production companies smoothly access locations and logistical support. Due to interventions from Northern Film + Media’s Production Service the region has seen a huge increase in enquiries from major feature film productions and high end television drama interested using Tees Valley locations.
The UK’s screen industry is flourishing with film and high-end TV attracting over £2bn of inward investment to the UK per year. This creates employment, boosts tourism and bringing global talent to the UK. There are growing capacity issues and skills shortages in production hotspots London and the South East, and there has been significant recent growth in Manchester and Leeds where jobs in the sector are both highly skilled and highly paid. The TV and Film Sector in the Tees Valley is currently one of the smallest in the UK but it has enormous potential for growth.
John Tulip, Managing Director, Northern Film + Media:
“We are delighted to be working with the Tees Valley Combined Authority and partners to produce a programme that effects real change and growth across the Tees Valley screen industries. We believe there is a wealth of talent in the Tees Valley and we are looking forward to supporting that alongside bringing in major films and television to shoot in the region – boosting the regional economy. With the emergence of Channel 4 in Leeds there is an exciting opportunity to make Teesside a vital part of the Northern media mix”
