#1: Developing Your Career from Shorts to TV Drama

Director Lewis Arnold talks us through his career journey from early roles in film as a runner and 1st AD, to directing short films and episodes of major series including Misfits and Humans.

We’ll discuss the process of getting those first commissions, directing series blocks and working with broadcasters, as well as developing your own projects from idea to commission to production.

About Lewis Arnold

Lewis began his TV career directing episodes of the BAFTA-winning Misfits for C4 and Russel T Davies’ Banana for E4. In 2015 he directed two episodes of C4/AMC series Humans, C4’s most successful original drama in over 20 years, as well as an episode of Broadchurch for Sister Pictures.

In 2017/18 Lewis directed Cleaning Up for ITV and Sister Pictures and starring Sheridan Smith, having developed the project with writer and creator Mark Marlow. He also directed Dark Money, a four-part drama for the BBC and The Forge.

Lewis has just wrapped filming on ITV’s upcoming miniseries Des, starring David Tennant as Dennis Nilsen, a project he developed with writer Luke Neal.
