Amazing news for the North East Comedy Hot House as Roundhouse Pictures’ ‘We’re Gannin’ Oot, Oot!’ was awarded the Comedy and Entertainment Award at Saturday night’s Royal Television Society, North East and Borders ceremony.
‘We’re Gannin’ Oot, Oot!’ was one of the first digital shorts from Channel 4’s co-commission with the Hot House to hit screens. It was an exciting venture for both writer, stand-up comedian Joby Mageean, and director/Head of Film at Roundhouse Pictures, James Craggs, who says: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled to have won an RTS award for ‘We’re Gannin’ Oot, Oot!’. It was our very first venture into comedy so to have seen it recognised in this environment is amazing. When we set out to make it we knew we were onto something special, especially with the brilliant writing of Joby Mageean and the ensemble cast of Hannah Walker and Raul Kohli, but we never dreamed that it would win an award we’ve long coveted. We’d like to thank North East Comedy Hot House, Emma Lawson, Lisa Laws and everyone at Northern Film + Media for giving us the opportunity to show what Newcastle’s really like to the rest of the world through the thin veil of comedy.’
Executive Producer of the North East Comedy Hot House, Emma Lawson, adds: ‘Lisa and I are over the moon that Roundhouse Pictures won the RTS for Joby Mageean’s ‘We’re Gannin’ Oot, Oot!’. James and the team worked so brilliantly hard stepping out of their comfort zones with new talent and a new genre to deliver such an accomplished short. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, and we couldn’t be prouder. The North East Comedy Hot House was born to generate collaboration in the North East, and we’ve been thrilled with the support we’ve received locally, from Northern Film + Media and also from Laura Marks and Channel 4. It’s a real testament to what can happen when people band together, and hopefully this is the first of many awards for the producers and the Hot House family.’
Congratulations to the ‘We’re Gannin’ Oot, Oot’ team! You can continue to support the sketch by liking, sharing and commenting on the Channel 4 Facebook post here.
