The first Digital Cities season in the North East in April 2017 attracted over 300 members of the region’s creative community to Gateshead for two days of inspirational and agenda-setting events.

Northern Film + Media partnered with BBC Academy, Royal Television Society and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art to deliver the first Digital Cities season in the North East in April 2017.

Supported by national skills and talent development agency Creative Skillset, the inspirational schedule of events attracted an audience of over 300 members of the region’s creative community to Gateshead.

Specially tailored for the professional television, film, arts and media community, the two days featured a range of practical hands-on workshops on livestreaming, working with the latest HD cameras and AR/VR innovations, through masterclasses ranging from short-form and apps for story-gathering to establishing a career in children’s television, to practical surgeries on working as a freelancer and embarking on creative industry apprenticeships. As well as the practical content Digital Cities was enlivened with some inspirational exclusive keynotes, including ‘Anatomy of Hit: Countryfile’, with the production and presenting teams behind the BBC’s ratings-winner. With all this and much more, the two-day conference delivered a timetable packed with inspiration, imagination and creative collaboration.

Digital Cities North East offered an unprecedented opportunity for creative industry professionals and students to get clued up on digital trends, hands on with the latest technology and secure the inside track from industry leaders on how to get digital content commissioned, produced and distributed to audiences.
