Verity Birt will use her time with BALTIC + The NewBridge Project to work with local women’s groups to develop a sound piece, video work and live incantation responding to the tradition of Canntaireachd- a melodic oral tradition of women’s chant, and sites of unmarked histories in North East England.
Verity is an artist and researcher based in London. She studied an MA in Moving Image at the Royal College of Art (2013–2015) and BA in Art Practice at Goldsmiths University, London (2008–2011). She is involved with collaborative research groups; The Future is a Collective Project, Reconfiguring Ruins, The Overview and a founding member of female artist collective Altai.
